Anyone know by off chance how many cups of salt are in their 15 pound bucket?

Trying to determine if it makes as much water as it advertises then figure out it's cost effeciency

Unless you have determined how many cups make what volume of what salinity for this specific brand, that may not be adequate for such a comparison. The volume needed (and even the mass) can vary from mix to mix depending on factors like the hydration level in the salt mix and the particle sizes.

True....I think I figured 1 3/4 cups made 5 gallons of SW so I was trying to determine how much that bucket of salt would actually produce. The company claims 55 gallons

honestly, how much salt you put in the cup, can vary greatly from one to the other. I find it much more accurate and easier, to weigh the salt, using a standard kitchen scale.

I'm sure it makes 55 gallons, the question is what salinity.

it actually makes more than 55 gallons and red coral pro salt is worth the money.. why penny pinch over salt when you spend way more on other things in this hobby. how do I know. I use it.

I don't disagree. I use it & will continue to. Just was wondering if it will produce 55 gallons. To the eye test it doesn't look like it but my eyesight gets worse each year. lol

Hmm at 1.025 of this salt it's 3 cups for 5 gallons for me but as stated above it varies

Perhaps because you use less than 35 ppt salinity.

I mix my salt at 1.025 so close enough. lol

I weigh mine, much easier in my life. It comes out correct as the bucket says by weight volume.

I think around 150gr. of salt = 1g of water at 1.025

If they intend to make 55 gallons at 35 ppt, and you mix to 1.025 (33.1 ppt), you should get 58.1 gallons.

That could be true for this mix (I do not know), but other mixes may have different hydration levels. Brightwell Neomarine, for example, claims to use anhydrous magnesium chloride in theirs, and so only needs 134.5 g per gallon to attain a sg of 1.025.
