First time testing the alkalinity in my tank that just cycled. If I added a total of 7 drops per the card that would mean my alk is 7. Am I wrong?

Here is a photo of the card

Other Parms just checking to be sure I’m in line.

Ammonia- 0
Nitrate- 10-15
Nitrite- .2
KH-7 if above is correct
Ph- 8.2
Phosphate- .169
Salinity- 1.025

I need to order more test kits but that’s all I have at the moment. What else besides magnesium do I need to be checking?

you can test for iodine, silicate, copper, strontium, dissolved oxygen potassium but until you start adding corals and dosing I would just stick to what you have for now but get a calcium test kit

Yes, based on you adding 7 drops, your ALK is 7.

That is weird, my Red Sea kH kit is different, but I supposed the same in concept.

This comes with the master kit that includes ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, PH, and KH. I think thats why this is different then the pro version. Also why I think I had issues finding the answer on my own. Honestly I am not a fan of how you have to do this one, too much room for error.

The pro kit titration is simple.

10mL tank water
and a syringe to the "10" line

whatever you have leftover when the color changes is subtracted from 10 and you got your number and correlating dkH

I saw a youtube on that and it looked much better. This one just has you measure water into a vial and then start adding drops from a not so easy plastic dropper. I will most likely be ordering the pro kit soon as I just added some coral and just want to make sure I am spot on.

The dKH Pro test is different as it is a titration test so the drops are more consistent and I believe the reagent is also different. I hate the regular test from the Marine Care Kit.

The kH is the easiest of them all, as there is only 1 regeant used...

everything else is more tedious... the magnesium is a nightmare, lol

The pro kit uses titration method and goes by amount used.. the reef foundation kit I believe is different in that you only use drops.. it's a good starter test but the pro version I feel is much more accurate.. that being said I went with a Hanna checker for all and only use my red sea test to compare results.

I have the Hanna for Phosphorus and will probably end up getting it for Alk. Thinking of Salifert for Mag and Calcium?
