Hi everyone
Hope all are doing good.

I planing to start my 1st 120 gallon reef tank.

Planing of having most soft corals and few lps .

Water change and plays a big part .

Red sea has 2 products

1 the foundation ABC - 3 part dosing
2 red sea skeletal elements abc + - 1 part

I would need some advice . If I'm Going to have mostly soft corals and few LPS .

Can I just buy the red sea skeletal elements. Instead of ant 3 part doing .?

Or is the 3 part dosing is a must.

Thank you in advance. Sorry for the silly question

No silly questions! You're right, water changes are going to be the biggest part.

Either dosing method will work. I did notice that Red Sea skeletal is missing alkalinity. So if you plan to dose alkalinity, that will just need to be an additional dose. The one downside of dosing skeletal is that, if one nutrient is being consumed faster than others, you can't really modify your dose. This likely won't be an issue but just something to keep in mind. I know every tank is different but calcium zaps from my system a lot faster than magnesium so I'm often skipping mag doses and doing calcium.

Edit- scratch that, it does have KH.

Its makes sense. Best think I need to do is to monitor the levels .for few week see how things goes and dose it gradually.

I think I can survive if go for soft corals and does alkalinity And skeletal elements

But if I go for few LPS hammer and elegance than I might need to go with alkalinity ,skeletal elements and calcium.

Hope I understand.

Yep. My edit above was that skeletal elements does have calcium and alkalinity (KH). So if you just needed additional, you can dose those separately.
thanks for your advise.now I got an idea about dosing .previously I was think why use 3 part when you could use only 1 part .now it got it . Its depends on the tank and coral intake.

I use the redsea complete reef care ABC foundation, NOPOX, ABCD trace colours and AB+ coral nutrition. I use the liquid form Its really simple but expensive.

Same here + OceanMagik live phyto. All great products and easy to use. I'm under the impression buying the 1L sizes helps save a bit but I haven't compared recently.

Its not to bad when you first start as dosing requirements are low but as your dosing goes up so does the cost. I buy the 1 liter but it ain't that much cheaper
