I have been mixing the appropriate amount of alk powder w rodi from Red Sea for about 2 weeks now and slowing dosing more every few days according to my Red Sea test kit
But I’ve reach 60ml per day on my apex dos already and barely maintaining 8.2-8.3
I have a Red Sea 350 Reefer w 5 fish and about 15 little frags

60ml seems like a lot to me, I originally was trying to slowly get to 11 dkh but at this rate idk what’s going on

My magnesium is 1400

And my cal is at 450 and only dosing 18ml of foundation A Powder w rodi water
I’m using a apex dos for my doser and dosing throughout 24 hours and have both my alk and cal staggered throughout the day

Any help and advice would be appreciated
Frank

IMO you can have any coral thriving at a ALK around 8.
Is there a reason why you want to be at 11?

Yet if want to elevate simple add more ml in a 24hr dose to it.
When I used a doser years ago I was adding close to 500ml in 24hrs to my system and ALK was set on 8.5.

My lfs said to keep it at 11 to help with keeping ph in check

Ok I was just worrying I was adding to much, and end up going through a whole container of alk in less than a month

I guess 60ml doesn’t sound as bad compared to your 500 lol

Just to put your mind at ease I have the S650 and currently dose 150ml of the Red Sea B powder to maintain around 8dKH in a full blown reef.

When I was running on the accelerated growth program at 12.6dKH I was dosing 225ml per day and that’s some serious usage!

Ok great thankyou , I also read that the powder is 1/3 strength compared to the liquid version
I guess I’ll stay at that dose and try to achieve 8.5 dkh

Read up on where ppl keep their Big three at.
Here was mine big three# when running full SPS.
Alk, 7.6/8
Cal, 390/410
Mag, around 1300
This all done by a CaRx

For reference a picture.
I know not the best SPS but it’s the only pic l have on my phone from 2 years ago.

It seems high but is within Max range for your system. As I have done in the past, If I think its getting high, I drop back a little. ( Like a car engine, a little oil is better than No oil ay all). Same applies to the levels discussed.

Thankyou fellas, I decided to stop dosing for 24 hours and see how much my tank consumes it that period
I’ll keep y’all updated for tomorrow

That you had to do from the getgo.
Why dosing if you don’t know what your consumption rate is.

Does 1.3 dkh consumption a day sound like a lot? For my lighty stocked tank

For me, I would dose alk and after 24hrs it would settle back down. Something to consider....but yes, your tank is either growing at an incredible rate or something maybe a little unbalanced...

Was running the accelerated growth program worth it? Did it make a difference? Were your corals hard and of quality?

Yes everything grew well but there was some brown out of SPS I assume because of excess zooxanthellae

I went to normal levels after a green hair algae outbreak which started when my phosphate hit around 0.16ppm and gradually the algae went as I drove phosphate down with rhowaphos to 0.03ppm.

Personally I prefer normal levels now (8 dKH etc) but give it a go if your interested.
