I am wondering when I'm about to get the end color of the tests should it be around something white? Meaning when the end color is reached should it be placed by something white to make sure it's the proper end color? I have tested by the tank and the light from the tank and the room still makes the end color on the mag and cal test still kinda dark purple lavender looking. And when I go into the bathroom or the front room the color looks darker and closer to the end color. It's making my final readings different. So is there a certain condition I should be in for the better LOOKING end colors? Thanks any advice will help is is much appreciated.

I haven't used their kits for a long time, but have been using them a lot recently. While it's important to get accurate readings, it may or may not be critical to get them exactly pinpointed. In other words, when looking at alk, how much difference is there between 9.6 and 9.64 (the difference one drop of titration would make). If so, you could use a white piece of paper behind the bottle. Get to where you think it's close to the proper "purple", and write down the value. Then add another drop. If it's more purple, then that's your new value. Add another drop to see if the maximum purple is reached. There's lots of room for micro-errors with Red Sea kits. Did you read the syringe exactly correct? When you assume you used a certain amount of fluid, then look at the chart, what if the amount you used was in between two values o the chart? IMO, "Pretty darn near close" counts.

I have found that the end point is a nice clear blue. If you can describe it as purple or lavender or magenta in any way then you are not there yet.

Edit: assuming of course that I'm thinking of the same test ...

Yes same test. See when I'm near tank the color looks more lavender but when I move to the restroom or front room it looks more blue. It's like a difference of 200+ ppm. When I tested last time the test by the tank it was about 1500 ppm then retested in the restroom it tested around 1300 ppm.

I have the same Kit and try and only test during daylight hours so there is some natural sunlight added to whatever artificial light source there may be. Aquarium lighting will definitely alter appearance. And yes, wait for true blue end point.

Cheers, Todd
