Hi All,
I have a Red Sea E-260 with the sump upgrade kit and am using an Ecotech S1 Vectra as my main return pump. Since setting it up, I've been fiddling with the gate vale trying to get the water level in the rear weir area of the display to stay at a constant level. The gate valve is EXTREMELY sensitive!
Then, in the last week, I realized, (stupid me!), that I could make minute adjustments on the speed control of my return pump. Huzzah! Success! I have been able to keep the level in the rear weir at the point I want it without any major swings in water levels!
So, for those of you out there with Red Sea tanks with the same gate valve I hope you have DC pumps like I do and this can help you out.

I have a Reefer 250 and the S1 pump. My LFS recommends that you keep the RS gate valve as open as possible and when I you hear very old loud sounds because of the drop of the water level in the overflow. As you had mentioned the fix was to increase the power of the S1 pump and that will adjust water level. Out of curiosity, how high did you set the S1 and also did you calibrate the pump as mentioned in the manual?

Actually, I only have the gate valve open halfway. Then I have my S1 set at the lower end of 7 indicator LEDs. Yes, I calibrated the pump and I don't use the feed option, (I turn off the 2 circ pumps), as it doesn't spin back up to the same exact speed it was at.

I calibrated my S1 and keep on changing it between 7 and 8 lights on the controller as I have seen variations in the water level in the overflow without me touching the valve.
