I am looking to get some member feedback on their experiences and opinions of the Red Sea Line of Products.

Specifically the:

ReefLED 160s
ReefMat 1200
ReefWave 45
ReefDose 4

Specifcially I am looking for what you liked and/or didn't like? What you were using before and why you switched? What, if anything, you would do differently with these products and their uses.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

I started with a deluxe 200xl so I’ve experience with the ReefLED 90. Easy to control via the app, sturdy and well made. The shimmer is great in the beginning but after a few months it drove me insane. The light will grow corals just fine but beware the crazy artificial shimmer!

I also had a Reefwave 25 and I now have a Maxspect Jump gyre. Enough said.

Thanks. What about the Reefwave did you not like that made you change?

I have two tanks with Red Sea skimmers and lights and all are going well. The 130g tank has three ReedLED 90s and an RSK 600 that have been running for 2 1/2 years now with no issues, since the tank was stood up. I haven’t even cleaned the RSK 600 pump yet. The 65g has been running two ReefLED 90s and an RSK 300 for about a year now, no issues. This tank is 5YO and I swapped the original lights and skimmer over to the Red Sea kit when they both had issues, given my good experience on the larger tank.

The skimmers are very easy to maintain, and unless you are dealing with nutrient issues (as I have done in both tanks at times) don’t need a big clean very often at all, just an empty of the cup. The long drain hose makes that very easy. They are also easy to tune the bubble height in, much easier than the Jeboa I replaced in the 65g. The pumps are also coping with my low maintenance quite well (-:.

The lights are quite solid and the ReefBeat app is pretty simple and effective. My only grumble is that I have to manually turn daylight savings on and off. Other than that no issues. The lights do need a good dust every month or two, I find the soft dusting brush attachment on our Dyson vacuum is really effective at cleaning them. This is very much like you do on a tower computer or similar that have fans which draw in dust which cakes up on the inlet grille. The lights do the same thing on their topside.

I have 2 reef led 90 and 2 Reefwave 25. The main problem I have is every time the power goes out or they loose connection they are a pain to reconnect. I also had one of the reefwaves constantly go into controller mode but Red Sea sent me a new controller which seems to fix that. I had started another post about asking for help with the connection issue but got no response so I guess I am the only one with the problem.

Thanks for the details.

Actually this is a risk that the Red Sea rep told my LFS guy as a potential issue, so I was actually aware of this but obviously just set mine up so I have not personally had this problem.

I set mine up with my LFS guy standing there with me, and it took a bit to get connected. The issue is pressing the function button on the equipment itself for 5 seconds, then going to your wifi system and adding the equipment piece, then back to the Red Sea app to finish the connection. For sure a pain and I can see how this is frustrating.

Noise and near constant maintenance.
It loses strength very quickly I found.
All items in our tanks require some TLC occasionally but i was stripping the Reefwave every water change day.
The Maxspect once every 4-6 weeks. The Jump gyre is a lot quieter.
