Hi, Will red sea lettuce possibly halymenia in display tank cause problems if it breaks down, ie raise nitrates as I'm constantly chasing them even before i added it, also will it rob the tank of oxygen ??..red sea max 130d,..ultimately is it friend or foe as it does look brilliant ps I put it in to eat nitrates etc as it should in a refugium which I don't have, I'm now wondering if it's actually causing more ??? .just started nopox this week and 25% water changes over the last month, but I'm still having fish loss

Cheers randy , what do you think about o2 when it's alive , I have some nice sized clumps will they absorb available oxygen , I have scrutinised dead fish and no signs of ich or velvet but some lack of colouration ps all corals (softies) are doing well
This is supposed to be a relaxing hobby ha

Unless you have a vast halymenia field in your tank, that tiny bit in your photo isn't going to affect your tank very much...aside from providing lunch to herbivores, most of which adore the stuff.

It's highly unlikely that halymenia will ever cause problems in your tank. Caulerpa is a different story, though...

Cheers David, so are you happy to confirm it is halymenia, thanks for the advice ,would be a shame to lose it ,there are about 5 similar sized clumps anchored down to be fair, this one has a foot on the rock.

It does seem large enough to have a big impact on O2.
