I recently got a Red Sea max 250 65 gallon tank for free and after a few weeks of letting the live rock dry out and scrubbing it all clean, and a whole lot of time cleaning and fixing the tank itself and stand I finally got sand, the dead rock, and water into the tank to start bringing the rock back to life and cycle the tank. I knew this system was moderately noisy but I had no idea it was THIS noisy lol the hood fans are loud but the skimmer sounds like a F22 taking off! I'm definitely gonna get a new skimmer soon, any recommendations on that? for the fans I'm thinking getting quieter PC gaming fans and calling it a day, any thoughts? Also, would anybody happen to know the fan size? The tank is in my bedroom fairly close to my bed but right next to my fan I have running 24/7 so the sound is a little masked but not entirely.

I was unaware the reefers needed any fans... My understanding is that as long as you are not using metal halides you don't need them. For the skimmer I don't know enough to suggest

It's not the reefer, it's the original gen 1 250. It has a whole lid with three stages to open and a T5 light enclosure sealed in the lid. I'd imagine with 4 T5's running at the same time it would get a bit hot in there. I figure Red Sea knows what they're doing, those fans have to be there for a reason.

I have the same tank. Those fans should not be noisy. Try cleaning them. Or they are going out. Replace them. I hope we can still get them anyways. The skimmer is not noisy either. Maybe take it out and reinstall it.

We used a chiller on ours for years during the summer. If not it overheated if you do not keep the room cool. My husband switched them out. He put in Leds. I love the hood. Biggest issue is keeping the water level consistent so the skimmer will work correctly. I put a small piece of tape with a mark where the level should be at when in feed mode. Take is on the glass. I did get a controller for that and to control the flow. It is a wave master pro. I top the tank off during feedings each day. I also use a controller for the heater.

I would love to know if anyone has put a ATO in this tank successfully.

Two of the fans stopped working and one of them blew up so I'd say that issue kinda resolved itself lol, now just gotta get new ones. The skimmer I put a little foam pad under it and it's MUCH quieter, but I can't seem to keep the dang thing running steady. The heat is the next issue, it'll be 70 - 75 degrees in my room but the tank will stay sturdy at 85, I have a hard time believing 3 little pumps keep the water that warm, I really don't want to get a chiller. I have an ATO system but I'm having a very hard time getting the water level to stay steady. I'm really not a fan of T5's, I know there is a LED kit you can get for this but I'm not in any position to drop $700 on a light fixture at the moment. I'm thinking of putting my current usa 18 inch light inside the light housing for now.
