Leak tested for 3-4 weeks successfully.

Carib Sea South Shore dry rock 40lbs. Used flat limestone for base and a couple Texas Holey rock. Used hydraulic cement to bond rocks together.

Put the rock and 40lbs of Caribsea special grade sand in and filled the tank up. Dec 8 2022

Diatom showed up right around Christmas and was pretty well cleared up Jan 5, 2023. It got really bad for a bit but what helped the most was cutting back on lighting an getting a lot of Halloween hermits and blue strip leg hermits. Also hit the rocks with a toothbrush.

Put a bottle of purple helix coralline algae in today will update with results. Performed a 10% water change yesterday and all parameters are good.

I have a Red Sea 250 (not a Max) I put into commission on 3/30/22. Have been very pleased with my tank/reef so far. I utilized a pair of Red Sea Led90's for my lighting, a Red Sea 300 skimmer and added a homemade refugium 4 months ago. Recently removed the filter socks from sump....found that I really didn't need them.

Did my second water change yesterday and had a diatom bloom overnight. I wondering if I’ve got Silicates in my RO water.

Nice! What are you using for lighting? The stock bulbs?

Just tested silicates from RO supply water and (test is subjectable like all of them) shows about 1mg/l of silicates which from what I can tell is pretty normal.

Thanks! It’s a 6 bulb fixture but I’m only using 4 as I don’t need that much light right now. I would like to upgrade to LEDs eventually but need to do more research on them and figure out how to incorporate in hood as I’m a fan of hoods. Steve’s led conversions is a little much for me as it’s a retrofit.
