Red Sea Max 260 sump upgrade

Hi. New poster here. I am getting the Red Sea Max 260 sump upgrade kit.

Do you have to keep the stock 2 x circulation pumps in the rear sump as I was thinking of getting a reefwave. Any downsides to removing them..?. Doesn't look like you get any plugs to plug them up so without a circulation pump water could siphon down into the bottom sump?

The only place water will go is back in the rear compartment isn't it? Water will flow down into your sump from the main/emergency drains so whatever water level is below in the rear compartment will simply stay where it is..

If I understand that correctly, if you are planning on going the ReefWave anyway, ditch the pumps- they're meant for return water and not as much for flow.

Thanks. Only thing I can see in taking those circulation pumps out is water could get a bit stagnant in those 2 Chambers but hopefully wouldn't be a problem.

Cheers yeh I've read and seen that but thanks for posting. Number 19 confuses me as says to replace the closed grill plugs with open grill plugs . Not sure why as assumed only grill into rear sump was the surface skimmer grill

Curious as to if you’re still running the 2 circulations pumps. I did the same upgrade and am running those as well as a ReefWave 25.

I have had my Max260 for 3 months and yesterday set about adding the sump upgrade.
Everything was fine and not too difficult apart from:
once the back centre sump was syphoned into 2 x 40 ltr drums for addition after. The PLUGS the 3 Bloody plugs in the bottom of the rear sump that need removing. I spent 30 mins and ended up hanging over a full tank and fish using a pair of pliers to remove. This was a worry time for me......

But worth the end result.

I have left the 2 pumps in place with the supplied open vents for FREE extra circulation .

when leaving the circulation fans in the rear sump would you need to plug the vents that way the surface center overflow would work? im having a problem with eater just being sucked in the vents as opposed to going to the main overflow. Anyone have any insight?

Edit. My main tank is a reefer 250 and im unfamiliar with the E260 rear sump and cabinet sump.
