Hi Reefers,

I would like to introduce my self as Jay :)

Many years ago a went on a quest to convert my own Trigon 190 to a marine setup, but due to time and Uni, the mission had to be aborted

however......a new mission for my has began, i have gone and got my self a Red Sea Max E-260 , and with Reef2Reef and others, i would like to share my journey and struggles with you all. im no expert reefing just the basics but i need all the help i can from you all. and with all your help i hope to have an easy ride,

before i ask any questions, i would like to say at one point i was planning to just give up and sell up because everything became overwhelming... and i didnt no what to do... but with all your help i hope to have an easy and stress free ride,

1) is there anyone that can help with the loudness of the setup, the return pump goes out faster then it comes in, and its loud

2) i have a dose unit but i need help on how to mix and how much to put in, " kal - Calcium - Magnesium " i keep seeing ppm but i dont understand this,

3) what should i be testing i have so many test kits,

4) ive lost a lot of purple and green algae, due to moving this tank, should i use purple up

sorry for all the questions

I’m unfamiliar with this exact design but I have a RSR 350 so I’ll help as much as I can. You should be able to adjust the valve on the main drain to reduce noise, It’s very finicky also I would start with it all the way open (turned left) so you can dial it back. You want the water line to be about half an inch below the emergency drain. I’m not an expert on dosing but it’s not really needed yet. I would wait till you add some coral and you’re unable to replenish the CA and Alk they are losing with water changes to dose. If you are cycling then you need to be testing ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate. BRS has a great series on YouTube called 52 weeks of reefing, this was invaluable to me when I first set up

Hello. With my E-260 I used a reef octopus varios 2 DC return pump so I could adjust the flow. I like to run my tank having the water flow just alittle into the emergency valve. My tank is very quiet can hardly hear it.

i can see that your water level is alot higher then mine, maybe that might be the reason why yours was quite, i will look for this pump online, thanks for the reply

Tank looks great. Yeah my water level does look but higher than yours. Here is another pic. About the purple up I like the stuff think it’s good. I would make sure test your calcium before using to much.

i noticed in your other forum https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/hello-from-oregon.408800/

you had valve in for the return pump, which gives me an idea to do the same :) but when you had it like this was it quite, and your water is much higher than mine, i think i need to add more water, shall i add more RO water or salt water you recon, thanks your take looks great i like the black wall you have and the pretty white sand :)

I would add more salt water. I originally had a different return pump from my introduction post as that one was to strong and blowing my Fiji sand everywhere. Dustin
