Hi Reefers,

I would like to introduce my self as Jay :)

Many years ago a went on a quest to convert my own Trigon 190 to a marine setup, but due to time and Uni, the mission had to be aborted

however......a new mission for my has began, i have gone and got my self a Red Sea Max E-260 , and with Reef2reef and others, i would like to share my journey and struggles with you all. im no expert in reefing just the basics, but i need all the help i can from you all. and with all your help i hope to have an easy ride,

before i ask any questions, i would like to say at one point i was planning to just give up and sell up because everything became overwhelming... and i didnt no what to do... but with all your help i hope to have an easy and stress free ride,

1) is there anyone that can help with the loudness of the setup, the return pump goes out faster then it comes in, and its loud

2) i have a dose unit but i need help on how to mix and how much to put in, " kal - Calcium - Magnesium " i keep seeing ppm but i dont understand this,

3) what should i be testing i have so many test kits,

4) ive lost a lot of purple and green algae, due to moving this tank, should i use purple up

sorry for all the questions

Sorry to hear about your struggles.

There should be an adjustable knob for flow on the red sea. If you are pumping water in too fast the water will go out the emergency overflow creating noise. You need to turn the gate valve knob to the left or open. This will allow water to flow into the sump faster from the tank. Once you get it tuned it should remain silent. If the valve is already open all the way and you aren't using a DC pump that can be slowed down. You may have a pump too large.

Dosing is not my forte. I know this much: You want to start off very slowly. You would want to start by testing the elements you are going to dose. If they are lower than suitable there are charts in the chemistry forum that will help determine what you need to supplement. I would create a post in the reef chemistry forum. Test all everything you have a kit for and post the parameter and then I am sure someone can help you determine what/how much to dose.

Also I am not familiar with purple up.

Good Luck
