Does anyone with a Red Sea max e170 have any suggestions for how to run some filter floss in the system?

the flow in the back compartment diverts the water from bottom to top in the media rack which would seem to make using one of the trays for filter floss pretty ineffective?

also there is a black sponge included that goes over the return pump, is anyone using that or has anyone just removed it entirely by chance?

thanks!

I use an intank aquatics media basket: https://intankaquatics.com/intank-media-basket-for-red-sea-max-c-130-and-e-170/

Like you said, the bottom up flow design poses a problem. I cut blue filter pads and place them in the narrow top area of the basket. This means that my mechanical filtration is occurring after the bag of carbon. Not ideal, as the carbon may clog with detritus faster. But it is what it is. The pad still catches a lot of much. I replace it weekly.
