Ok so i am done with the cycling process and the tank is still empty but just liverock and sand. Is it normal for the skimmer not to make bubbles? It just fills the canister with clear water. The toggle is on the operating mode and all connections are placed.

It is working but no bubbles like how i am used to with other skimmers.

Thanks for the help.

@SPR1968 has the same tank.

Don’t know if uses that skimmer but I can’t think of anyone else that may be able to help.

Have you contacted Red Sea?

Not sure how long you have had the skimmer in there, but most do need to break in and sounds like you might have the settings to high. You said you dont have fish or nothing in there so you dont have a bio load in there and it will not do better till then. Do a couple of days worth of ghost feeding and you should start to see dirty water in the couple and help the skimmer break in as well. I would adjust it down some though for sure.

So should i make the water fill the canister atleast half right?

Assuming it’s the C Skim that comes with the tank (you will know because it’s black, the size of a small car, sounds like one, and looks like it’s been build in soviet russia! Lol)

It’s a new tank so maybe there isn’t anything to skim out at the moment, but it might help if you could take a picture of it in position and operating, or short video

The Red feed valve to it from the manifold, should be set around 50% open to start with as that can cause issues.

I ran the C Skim for over 12 months so am fairly familiar with its operation. My hunch is it’s because there is nothing in the water, and mine was like this and I seem to remember being in the exact same position thinking why isn’t it working.

In the meantime I would set it so the water is near the bottom of the cup, otherwise it’s likely to start overskiiming. Also when you start to get stuff in the water, the bubbles should start.

We will get it sorted for you anyway (hopefully!)

Here we go

That’s the beast!

It doesn’t look right at all, there are no bubbles or even slight bubbles

To the right of the skimmer there is a rubber air tube going up and I can’t see were it finishes. This should have an air control valve on it. The rubber tube actually looks to long

Below are the instructions I have and you see a relatively small tube going up and another longer tube going down and into the skimmer body. I can’t see that on yours so is it all fitted correctly ??

I can’t make out the bit below the water line.

I connected everything but the canister must be filled with water? I put the lever on low already.

Now that picture looks much better, bubbles are forming

Just leave it alone for a week or so, until you get some nutrients in the system. It’s looking better already

But make sure you keep us up to date if you need anymore help and we will get it sorted for you

That’s it!

I would initially start with the bubbles in the lower half towards the bottom, or it might start over skimming, or just leave it alone for a while and see how you get on

So should i make the water fill the canister at least half right?
You want your foam about a quarter way up the neck. as the dirt is pulled out with the bubbles it will be pushed to the cup. and as the dirt is starting to pull out you can adjust it as you need too. Just remember to make changes small and slowly. after you adjust a little give it a few hours to level out and the adjust more as you go or give it a day or two to see what happens.

sorry it took me so long to get back, Had a bunch of stuff come up at work yesterday. Glad you are getting it worked out. It takes time with a skimmer and a lot of playing with a new one. their all different and takes a learning curve. But if there is anything that I might be able to help you with just get in touch I will always pass on everything I know and do my best to help with everything I can.
