I have the stock RSM S400 with the 3 pumps on the top of back wall. Wanting to add more flow around sandbed. Thinking the MP40 or Gyre 3300. Anybody have suggestions for this type of tank?

I know this is “Reef Spec” by Red Sea but per spec only 2,000 gph total flow per spec sheet seems light. Have only had the aquarium about 7 months so still dialing it in and learning.

Appreciate recommendations!

Hi and welcome to R2R!

I have the S650 and a full reef, and have never needed to add more flow, but if I wanted to I would get maybe the MP40, but it’s all personal preference of course

Try pointing the nozels down/sideways if you want more flow at the bottom.

Thank you for the welcome and quick reply. Are the specs correct I am reading on total circulation at 3600gph for your rs650? I am back at this hobby after a 20 year hiatus. I read about 30x-50x circulation targets. For my RS400 the 2000gph is 20x circulation. But adding a $400 pump I can wait on. I have been directing flow pretty high to aid surface breakup but will experiment pointing lower. For 7 months old the tank seems to be doing well.

I’m not sure to be honest. It has a main pump, probably same as yours if standard at 1850 gph and 4 x 570 gph rear circulation pumps. The S400 has 2.

The S Series are designed as a complete system by Red Sea, and apart from any personal preference you don’t need any additional flow. Some people do of course, but that preference

Everything in my tank moves very well with the flow and through it, and certainly in my case I don’t need any more. Or any wires showing.
