Hi, I have a Red Sea max s650 and I am wanting to change out the stock return pump for a reef octopus VarioS-8 pump... how are people doing it with the plumbing that comes with the tank? Are there metric adapter you have to but to make it work? Thanks so much.

Is the barbed fitting on the varios8 the same size as the red sea? I looked at the red sea pump and it looks like 3/4 to 1" barbed fittings stepped fitting. Heck, they might just screw off of one and onto the other.

I was considering the same change, but I noticed the Varios8 is rated at 98W while the stock pump is 70W. @SPR1968 might have changed out his pump and can chime in.

I haven’t change them yet and I also have a spare Red Sea pump as well.

If I replace it I’ll probably get an ecotech Vectra but what I did when I was looking I got a fitting the same size as the one on the end of the connection hose, and then it’s just a matter of finding/modifying a pump to fit it which should be fairly easy

The size of the output on the pumps look different. Here are some pics so you can see... any recommendations?

I just went to LFS with my spare Red Sea pump and purchased a fitting that the pump could be screwed into So basically its the same size as the one at the end of the existing hose connection

Then i knew any new pump needed to screw into that fitting

eak, I have the older style Red Sea pump so I have a threaded to barb connection. When I get home tonight I will take some pictures of what I have for reference.
