I just received my red sea nitrate pro test kit a couple of weeks ago.
I am having issues with reagent B not dissolving. Yes, I am following the directions...
Even after shaking and sitting for the 9 minutes, there is still large clumps of the reagent floating in the cuvette.
The color is more of a purple than the samples on the slides.
I had zero issues with the red sea nitrate test kit that is included with thier reef test kit.
Before switching test kits, my nitrates were 5-10
Now they are coming in at 16-32 or higher.

Is this normal? Or did I get a bad test kit?

I had the same issue with red sea. Used it for almost 10 years and never had the problem. The last batch of refill I had I thought maybe was bad so I got another and it did the same thing. I ended up switching to Nyos. Couldn't be happier, and it only takes about half of the time as the red sea. And it's m uch easier to read

Well, that sucks...
Did you find the red sea was giving you false high nitrates?
I'm thinking that is the case, because my phosphates are pretty consistently .02-.03.
I was torn between nyos and red sea when my reagent ran out. Guess that was a waste of $40!

I remember thinking it was inaccurate I can't remember thinking if it was high or low.

That's the other thing too, Nyos is much cheaper.

I always have some of reagent b (I think) floaters. The floaters do not seem to affect results compared to my Salifert (which I like just as well or better than the Red Sea because of ease of use and time needed). I’m gonna look into Nyos next time though.

one thing I do to get more accurate numbers, is change the amount of saltwater/RODI that I use. It’s easier for me to read the dark pinks. My nitrate runs from 4-10 so I use 4ml saltwater and 12ml RODI. I multiply the result color by 4.
