So I recently bought a Red Sea reefer from someone in my area club. I was looking for a new project so this was perfect.

im just starting to clean this tank out I’vebeen cleaning with distilled vinegar and just ordered some bar keepers friend which is coming in this week. I’m not in a rush with this tank but I broke one of the sump pipes. ugg. No worries but here is my question!

so I’m looking at the pipe to replace and I believe all the sump pipes have really hard calcium crystals built up on them. Do I soak all the pipes? Or should I just save myself the trouble and order all new Red Sea parts to replace this all? Dry it won’t flake off. I haven’t tried to soak any of the pipes yet.

I would love some thoughts! Thanks for reading!

The the easiest and most simple way would be to soak them in vinegar water. if you can get your hands on some citric acid that would work as well.

No need to replace them if they're not damaged. if it's just calcium buildup from worms and what not, just soak them and brush them off and they should be fine.

If you soak with vinegar or citric acid, you should be able to get a lot of that off.

Thanks guys! I’d rather replace what I need to! I did buy new o rings for the system which I am replacing! I’m trying to soak the return head as a start that amount of crud coming off just this alone says I have a while to go

Scrub them a toothbrush. Some things, depending on how much is on them, may take overnight.
