Ok so I was mixing up salt for a water change yesterday. And somebody has told me that the film inside my tank is from proteins within the tank or other factors. And I was starting to think yes possibly. But after letting it mix for 24 hours in a bucket before in the tank. The water is still cloudy and has the film all over the top of the water. I'm using IO purple bag. I don't want to keep wasting RO water so I'm thinking of switching to red sea pro. LFS is sponsored by them. What is your guys experience with red sea? I'm sure it has to be better than IO. Thanks guys

Yea I think I'm going to buy a bucket today. I have had a powerhead in the bucket for over 24 hours and it's still really cloudy and that nasty film from whatever.

I use IO, no issues.

Sounds to me you may have your power heads/return placed in such a way that your overflow is not getting rid of any floating detritus, the flow could be pushing it away from the overflow, I would think even if there was a film from the salt, the overflow would get rid of it.

As for not mixing RS for more than 2 hours, I can’t see a good reason for that, BRS showed most salts take up to 24 hours to mix clear, some over 24 hours.

I don't have a overflow and idk what it is but my first bag of IO no problem but this second bag is the one making the film idk. And yes I've seen brs reviews where most.took 24 hrs if not more to be some what clear

I use RSP and it’s a solid salt - it stores ‘dirty’ with brown mineral buildup in the bottom of my saltwater barrel, but it’s perfectly normal across salts. I used to use TM and Fritz and get some residue but black - no biggie it’s not gonna hurt anything

+1. I mix my RSP or any salt for 24+ hours and it sits in my reservoir for weeks with a pump and heater just fine. I wouldn’t trust the waters final salinity at 2 hours.

Long term mixing is fine, They prob don’t want you to notice the mineral buildup that happens when it (or just about any salt) is stored. Or it precipitates some calcium/mag - no big deal.

Exactly…it mixes in the display continuously anyway.
