New build January 27, 2019. Just 35lbs of live rock and 40lbs of sand (deep bed) at the moment. Cycling since 1/27/19. I'm taking my time with this build, learn from past experiences. Hoping to make it smooth this time! lol
Equipment:
Reef Octopus VarioS 2 return pump @ 80%
Kessil A360X Tuna Blue with the spectral controller X and mounting arm
2 Hydor aqamai kps power heads
ReefKeeper Lite controller with 2 PC4's (I'm looking for a sl1 or sl2)
Bubble Magus Curve 5 skimmer
Eheim Jager 150w Heater
Mighty Mite 50gpd RO/DI
Tunze 3155 ATO

Kind of messy but is work in progress. I build a shelf to put some of the equipment there, waiting on some lights from amazon. Change my return line to 3/4". My old one leak 5/8" and then snap at the bulk head (day 2). Got the Red sea DYI lid yesterday and was a pita to install the screen. Got a Hanna phosphate test kit. Salinity is a 1.024 at the moment.

It is a tight squeeze in the 170 cabinet but you definitely managed. By the way, what did you use to mount the boxes on the side walls of the cabinet, double stick velcro, double stick tape of something else?

I use velcro for the tunze, double side tape for the kps boxes and a holder that came with the varios 2 controller. PC4's mount with screws. Once the shelf is mounted and everything is clean I'm going to post some pics. I'm waiting on lights from amazon, they should be here tomorrow.

Nice! Following along! I just upgraded from Innovative Marine SR 80 to the Red Sea Reefer 750 XXL in January. I love it so far. Instead of the DIY Red Sea lid I bought one from Clearview lids. It took 4 weeks but I love it. Any ideas on stocking? I can't wait to see see pictures!

I did look at the ClearView classic lids for the 170, they're definable nice. I love DYI stuff, I chose the Red Sea one but the hardest part was the screen. The Red Sea reefer is a gorgeous tank but the plumbing can be better. Mine was leaking from day one at the return fitting. They send me a new one and it leak too lol. Then the worse happen and cracked at the bulkhead. Water everywhere, noooooooo!! It's good now with a whole new return pipe and fitting. I'm planning on adding some picassos, lps and anemones. I have mainly sps on my old set up.

Cleaning Crew is in for business! Tank is doing good on parameters, except my PH is around 8.0

Like the set up! I have a 170 as well and it has been great. Saw you have the Aqamai, I just got a second one and it’s like they where made for this tank.

How do you like the KPS pumps? I have the reefer nano and was debating on 2 of them for the back wall like you did. I opted for 1 MP10 instead but was thinking of maybe getting 1 KPS for the heck of it to supplement my MP10. I would really love another MP10 but i dont think i need that mich more flow in the tank, it seems like overkill...

Aqamai KPS for sure! Nice pumps for the money and good flow for the size. Plus the set up is clean. The only "con" is the magnet that holds the pumps, not strong enough for the 170 glass (3/8"). It works but a little loose. I have my varioS 2 set at 80% to help with the flow in the middle.

Corals Action!! The tank is moving along great, added some corals...and a "LFS employe screw me with a posses tree spot damsel" An $11 mistake. This fish is gorgeous and a great swimmer, almost like a pigmy angel. BUT, BUT>>It's a demonic fish:mad: Put a dent on all the other fish after the 6th day on the tank. Even the little devil neon dotty back got some, she got a taste of her own viciousness. This fish should only be kept with "JAWS". One of my picasos looks like Nemo, only have one fin left but still swims. Just be aware of this type of fish. The person at my local fish store didn't have any idea about the aggression on this tiny fish. Anyways, I trap/caught the fish...nahh didn't flush him lol. Took the fish back to the store and told them what happened, went to a med tank with a yellow sign "very aggressive".

I'm not sure what is causing my pics to be a little blurry. They're nice and crisp in my phone/laptop. Some updates on the sump. Put a fan just to cool the water up a little, added a bag of chemi-pure blue and intank filter floss on the red sea cup.

I would be cleaning up my sand bed soon. Too many xtra shells and tiny rocks. I like the xtra weight just to keep the fine sand from blowing all over the place with a new set up. And also keep my water crystal clear. Sand is setting down, so is time to rake it a little lol. The only maintenance to the tank is just the weekly water change and that's pretty much it. More to come as the tank matures.
