Currently running lights for 4 hours a day to keep the stuff on the rocks alive (or try 2)

The aquascape looks very nice and natural Dave

Great job!

Hey Dave, welcome to the show. Is that dry rock ? You might already know this, but in the new few days/weeks you are going to see some brown diatoms on the sandbed. But the best thing to do is to leave it alone so that other micro-organisms compete for resources and the diatoms go away. I have seen many new folks who add chemicals to get rid of diatoms which also affects the good stuff.

Yes I would leave it off for the time being,, I didn’t turn my skimmer on for about 2 months in my big tank until nitrates hit around 5 to avoid the ugly stages along with other methods,

I was able to overstock my Red Sea Reefer 170 with Tunze Micro Algae Reactor and 25W UV light (bought both used for 1/2 price.) Used Tunze pump to pump water through both reactor and UV.
