Hey guys I've been checking out other builds on here for a while now and figured it was finally time to post my current project. I've been in the freshwater fish game for many many years now but saltwater tanks have quickly become my new favorite and have rapidly outnumbered my freshwater setups.
This is my newest reef tank setup. I have two other tanks that I'll link once I post them in here, a 30 gallon long that will have the corals divided into this tank and into a new 25 gallon Mr. Aqua and then a JBJ 6 gallon AIO.
On to the build.
For those unaware, the tank is 48x20x21, 73 gallon display and a 18 gallon sump. 91 gallons total.
Went with a Red Sea tank because I wanted something rimless and a setup that would look like a piece of furniture as this tank is in our living room and will be a center piece.
Lighting: The tank is Kessil powered with an AP700.
Return: Using a Sicce Syncra Pro for a return pump for 800gph.
Powerheads: I'd like a mixed reef but I plan on going sps heavy in this tank so I'll be using a Ecotech MP40 and an Icecap gyre 3k. Way too much flow I know but I would rather have too much and turn them down vs not enough and running powerheads at full power.
Skimmer: Reef Octopus 150SS
Also running a carbon reactor and Red Seas ATO setup that comes with the tank.
All setup.
Sump without carbon reactor.
Went with aquacultured live rock and 40lbs of live sand.
I setup the rock work like the first picture but decided a few days later that I didn't like it lol. Second picture is what it currently looks like.
Tank is currently two weeks into the cycle and should be ready for a clean up crew soon.
Hopefully I covered everything but I'm going to try and post updates as I add and change things. If anyone has any suggestions for future upgrades or additions I would love to hear them as well.
