hey guys

So some
Of you may have seen my $2500 build post below
I found a new idea today so made a new post.

A LFS has two tanks they are going out of business. Great deal on both

Red Sea 350 in black and a 450 in white
Now the 450 is the color I want but that is a big commitment I know

Big jump from my original 250 idea.

Also, the 450 was discontinued. Anyone know why?
Was it a bad tank? I can get either for the same price.

Killer deal I would prefer the white but dang that’s big haha

Any thoughts on this insane plan?
Both do not have the newer gen 3 sump because they have been on the shelf for a year. Both brand new in the crate. I guess the 450 is 92 gallons vs 73 in the 350

Prices on both?

Also, what do you think about long term operational expense?
The 450 will probably cost alot or a little more to operate? maybe on a scale of 1-10 10 being 100% more to operate.
When factoring in chemicals for dosing, media etc etc

Same price
I cant advertise it but lets say less then retail :)

I would say 15%. more- My 75 cost about 50 a month, my 300- $130. A friend has a 50 and it costs about $35

Personally I think the 350 is a perfect size. I have a reefer with the black stand and it still looks quite nice. I would love a 5 foot tank but i think about how much the equipment would cost vs a smaller tank, especially lights. When i buy a house and im ready to upgrade it will be the 250 or the 350 or possibly a waterbox 100.3 or 130.4.

The 450 will be much more to setup, but not too much more to operate.

Interesting, i talked to BRS about lights, i also found a local guy with G4 pros for $600 each used
would two of those suffice for a 450?

maybe im just being impatient and should simply order a 250

The problem is, our house is white everything. White granite, white kitchen cabinets white trim etc.
Very modern house we had built for us.

so the black cabinet just will look really out of place i think

I would get a reef breeders Photon V2+]
I love it and it grows sps really well.

I may go get the 450, im really going to be dependent on you guys for help as i have no idea what im doing lol
However, we own our home, i have plenty of time and not going anywhere.
I just need to make sure im not spending more then like 50 or $75 a month on this thing onces its all setup. Anymore then that i dunnooo. lol
but i do know lots of people say a 120gal is ideal for beginners because things happen slowly and not crazy out of control like a nano

i dont think the monthly cost will be much difference but the setup will. Bigger pumps, lights, reactors ect are all obviously more expensive. Another expense to think about would be a mixing station, im a firm believer of having rodi and salt water on hand for big emergency water changes if necessary. Another thing is white vs black, if your whole house is already white then id definitely go with the white stand

I am now broke but this is gonna be awesome :)

I started the $2500 isn’t enough thread lol so much for that idea ......
