Red Sea Reefer G2 350 Return Pump Chamber

Hey All,

I recently set up my Reefer G2 350 and have so far not had any issues. One thing that is bothering me, even though it might not have to, is the amount of water in my return pump chamber of the sump. I am using a Sicce Syncra Silent 4.0, with the intake closed all the way to the minimum. The pump returns water totally fine, and there is no air being pumped into the tank through the return pump, but the water level in the chamber itself is low enough that the top of the return pump is exposed, and is below the recommended 6" of water in the return chamber. I have tried adjusting the downflow valve over the past few days, but if I turn the valve open too much, I get these large hiccups that I imagine are not supposed to be coming from the downflow. Should I be worried about the amount of water in the return chamber? The level of water stays constant in the return chamber.

Yes. Note that the RSR 350 manual recommends a return flow of 791 gph, which is less than the 951gph that the Sicce provides.

I'd adjust the flow on the Sicce downwards; you should be able to do this by turning the flow adjuster on the front of the unit. If you've done this (and it appears that you have), you may have to downgrade your return pump.

My return flow pump is more powerful, but I dialled it down to the lowest possible setting (it has an external controller), and it provides more than enough power for sufficient circulation.

Awesome, thanks for the advice! I was hoping I didn't have to swap out pumps, but that seems like the only option. Do you recommend the one you currently have? I was already considering buying a DC pump as the replacement.

I do, actually. I usually give the side-eye to robust and enthusiastic Amazon reviews, but it really is silent and it really does work well. I'm in a remote area, so I had to buy some tubing sight-unseen off of Amazon as well, but it actually all worked out.
