Red Sea Reefer issue

I all the sudden am having issues with my Reefer 170. The water level changes In Hours.left came back it was so low it was gurgling and sump was higher like the valve lowered the water level itself

Anyone have this issue. I was thinking something stuck in pipe but that would cause it to overflow not lower

Maybe a simple cleanout of your return pump.

I can't for the life of me get my nano figured out either. I use it as a coral QT in my unfinished basement. I am so busy with work and my fish QTs that I don't have time to mess with it. My 750 I have never had an issue with. The nano I've had the sump overflowing before due to water in the emergengy overflow pulsating and bubbling out over the back side of the chamber in sump. I have basically set valve open further than it should be and just resorted to listening to it gurgle. When time allows (this winter) I will disassemble plumbing and see what's going on. I might replace my valve as well.

No just let it drain below the overflow.

As long as sump isn't overfull when you stop the pump, it will have room to hold the water.

You need to take part that diaphram valve every so often and clean all the crap thats built up inside. You would be amazed how quick and thick sludge builds up. I ripped mine out and went for a true gate valve on my Reefer 450. Pull that drain pipe, use a towel to catch any drips, clean that dial valve and put back on.

I want to do the same to add a gate valve to my Reefer 450.

What size gate valve did you use and have you got a few pick to see where you added it/cut it in to the pipework.

i'm having this same problem - it started when i replaced the return pump with a slightly more powerful one, and now i'm always back and forth trying to get the right size in the diaphragm to maintain silent operation... also thinking of replacing the valve with a gate valve.

I took my 170 down it was driving me bonkers, and I did clean the diaphragm valve, return pump, all the piping and still was non-stop frustration the last 2 months, it was fine for almost a year then starting in November the water just would not stay level, would be fine sometimes an hour, sometimes a day, but just got to a point it wasn't worth dealing with anymore.

Are you using the supplied ATO?

How much flow Aden you running through your sump? The reefer 170 is supposed to handle 500 gph max

I was using a Tunze Nano ATO which was in place since day 1 and the tank ran with 0 issues for 11 months.

Red Sea seems to think its the diaphragm so they are sending a replacement, so I will see if that works.

I had found water all over the floor. Took some time to realize I was getting surging that was causing water to overflow over the back side of the first chamber just like you mentioned here.. (650 reefer)
