Hi guys, new here. I've had freshwater tanks in the past and always wanted a saltwater tank but have feared the additional time and maintenance with my busy schedule. I finally picked up a beat up 54 gallon corner tank and have had it about 8 months or so. My wife now says that I'm addicted and that our tank is too small. She wants me to get a big show tank and has given me the green light to find something by Christmas.

I see a lot about the red sea reefers and really like the contemporary look of the tank and stand. What would be some other suggestions for contemporary looking stands and rimless tanks? I'd love to find something similar to the ghost overflow system with the reef savvy tanks but without the wait time and a stand similar to the red sea reefer. I'm looking for something in the 150-200 gallon range, 5'-6' wide.

Thanks

I really do like the red sea reefer series as well. My next tank will definitely be one. Need to buy a new house first ;)

I have a reefer 250. I like it a lot however im upgrading and like you wanted a ghost type external overflow. So i narrowed my choices down to SCA and CDAquariums. SCA doesnt list them on their website but does sell tanks ready for the synergy shadow overflow. Email or call for a quote.
CDAquariums is who I went with. You can mostly piece together your system on their website and request a quote for additional upgrades.

I'm new to R2R as well. I haven't introduced myself to the site yet, however, I'll chime in since I just ordered the Red Sea Reefer 525 XL Deluxe. The 525 set-up is 139 gallons (total system), which is a little smaller than what you may purchase. That leaves the 625 XXL and the 750 XXL as your options. I studied (at great length) both the Red Sea and the Waterbox options. I don't think we could go wrong with either, however, I chose Red Sea for the longevity of the system, and, I feel the plumbing and ATO systems are better thought-out/constructed. Since the purchase price of both brands is similar, with the Red Sea, I'll save on the initial investment not having to purchase an ATO pump system from the start. (not to say I wont expand to a larger ATO system in the future)

My 525 arrives from Red Sea this coming Wednesday. I'm on the humble side of internet social networking, so I may not do a build thread, but, I'm happy to give you my initial thoughts when I've unwrapped and set up the tank next week. Here we go......

Cheers!

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, the XL525 was arriving today. It's here.

I'll start by saying the box it's shipped in is well constructed. The driver was kind enough to use his pallet jack to place the crate in the garage for me. I was also pleased to see that Red Sea used hinges for the top to enclose the package. I only had to remove a few screws to open the lid. I took a quick look inside, removed the sump box (pictured), then it was back to the office. I certainly know what I'm doing when I get home from work this evening...after I give my wife a very thankful kiss on the cheek.

I think a good Pinot Noir from Oregon will be nice to sip on while I assemble the base. Thoughts anyone?

BTW BW1199: Have you made your purchase decision?

Thanks everyone for the replies.

F22, good luck with the tank! We haven't made a decision yet but are leaning towards the red sea reefer. We are waiting till black friday to make a purchase, hoping one of the suggested tanks are on sale, or atleast all the equipment.
