My 3 month old ReefMat 500 quit working. I contacted support and they said the motor failed and they are sending me a new one. That’s all fine and dandy, but why is my 3 month old $500 roller mat broken already?! I’d rather not have to replace it every 3 months… Anyone know what causes this or is it just Red Sea using underpowered poor quality components?

mine just broke also…I went through the whole “swaptronics” troubleshooting: new motor, entire new drive unit, new power supply …
I didn’t need the motor so if it turns out that’s it,pm me ….
FWIW my unit was barely a year old

The motor on my 1200 broke as well, but it took 15 months. They sent me a new one and it’s a 5 min swap.

They’re using cheap Chinese junk motors, and they don’t last long. Design flaw on an otherwise great piece of gear.

Thanks both. On the bright side I was extremely impressed with the customer service. I sent a service request message yesterday afternoon on the website and a new motor is already on the way with a fedex tracking number today.

I had one go out too and didn’t think to use the warranty. The swap was simple. The motor is like a $3 toy motor. I’d buy an upgrade for that for sure. Debated about pulling out some of my old TC or 12th scale stuff. If you know you know.
