Anyone with the redsea rollermat 1200 have an issue with the back roll getting too heavy about halfway through the roll, causing a jam warning?

Not the 1200 - but had it happen once with my 500. The solution I came up with is to apply a small strip of masking tape along the edge of the end of the fleece roll and one of the two red halves of the back roller.

Do u mind sharing a pic on what you mean? Back roller the one with the dirty or used roll?

Just ran into this problem with my 500 about 30% into the roll. This was the only thing google offered me. So i will share my seeminly quick easy fix.

I hit the manual feed button and noticed the gear turned fleece didnt.

I grabbed the fleece(dirty side) and rolled it about a half rotation by hand(in normal operating direction) then tried the button again and it worked as it should.

Went back to the app and told it to resume. This was just now so waiting to see if it jams again on this roll but appears as if it should continue as intended.

My reef mat 500 is jamming constantly. I have manually reset it more times than I can count. I have gone through and rebuilt the setup a number of times. I now have numerous emails to red sea. It will work for 2 days then it will jam 5 times in one day. Of course, I have now cut out all of the glass baffles and filter sock holders. This is turning into a nightmare .
Waiting to see what red sea is going to recommend.

mine is doing the exact same thing. Even with no load on the cog/motor it gets jammed. I think im having an issue with the motor not being powerful enough or the motor it self has an issue.

I have been having the same issue too. I cut my baffles to install this. and now my forward push button is also stuck...

You guys have been unlucky. When You first put in a new roll make sure the first few manual turns are tight …and as blaxsun said above, use some sticky tape when you first thread the roll through.

Having upgraded to the ReefMat 1200 in the Fall, I should update my answer - which is yes, I've had it jam up twice in about 5 rolls. Observations:

1. This only seems to happen towards the end of the roll if it hasn't been aligned precisely.
2. Ensuring precise alignment and using a good length of 1" tape (I use the Frog painting tape) seems to alleviate this issue.

My personal feeling is that Red Sea needs to upgrade the motor on the 1200 and make it more powerful (the problem lies with having the same motor as the 500 with a much heavier fleece roll).

I have not had a jam since my last response. And just kicked my 2nd roll. So im bein lg a bit more thoughtful on setting up the 3rd. But i feel like it might just be about getting the take up roll to a certain range of tightness. Interesting to hear more reaponses now that ive seemed to raise this thread from the dead!

I have this same issue with Jamming and error2. I did install everything correctly and was already on my 2nd roll. Somehow it randomly got stuck/jammed it seemed. So I tried to clean the clamps on the bottom, made sure it was rolled tight and all parts are in correct placement. It seemed to only move a bit if I gave it a nudge but I can tell the reefdrive unit motor was not working properly.

Even with nothing attached I tested the reefdrive unit and it did not move. So I contacted Red Sea and went back and forth a little and they sent me a replacement drive unit. I swapped it out and works perfect again. I am sending them the bad drive unit back.

Not sure if this helps but just sharing my experience. Good luck…. Btw I was stressed out too because I modded my sump as well. I was manually just rolling the mat every chance I could while waiting for replacement which was a pain. Basically just flooded the sides of the reefmat most of the time causing different issues for me.

I thought it was funny when my first roll kicked i didnt need red seas app to tell me it was quite obvious from other signs. Your the first person ive seen to say similar!

My 1st roll went through like a charm! The problem started on my third roll. And now the problem amplifies on my forth roll.
I do not think it is “not lucky”. Thank you for sharing your issue and your resolutions.
I am going to contact Red Sea.

I have a Reefmat 1200 and I have issues with jamming near the end of the roll. The fleece is well aligned and no slipping on the uptake roll. I have noticed since it was first setup that when the uptake roll driven by the rear cog/motor was running, the other cog would give resistance in the clean fleece roll, but would not be smooth (skips/jumps/jitters as opposed to a smooth steady resistance). Anyone who goes fishing, it is like when you over tighten your drag and as you pull out like it jumps/jitters.

Anyone else experience this? Is it normal or do I have a defect or doing something wrong?

Any advice would be appreciated

My 1200 just reported the fleece was jammed - I'm also near the end of a roll (my 4th).

The uptake motor is making a groaning sound and not pulling the fleece through. I loosened the feed side and it did a couple manual advances easily but then jammed up. Sent a support request just now.

As others mentioned, it seems they need a more robust motor for the 1200's.

I just weighed my roll - it is pretty moist and it weights 1852 g (just over 4 lbs)! I think this is a lot of load on that motor. This is with a roll that is almost finished (110 feet out of 115 feet). I cut if off early so the motor can finish the rest with less strain.

My reefmat 500 says it’s jammed but it’s not, it auto rolls even when the auto button is OFF? Does anyone have this problem?

Yeah took mine apart, cut off the roll and disposed the dirty roll 2/3 got the left over 1/3 reset and appears to be going again, will know more tomorrow, looked like the dirty side was too heavy and crimple the mat as was being pulled
