Red Sea starter kit reef mature

Hi, has anyone else ever followed the Red Sea starter kit reef mature programme, can anyone give me any feedback or tips on it as I am currently following it?

Are you having an issue? If so what?
99% of the time is because the instructions are not followed to the letter.

I have not used the RS system, but cycling a new tank no matter the products used is not problematic overall.

Hi, no not had any problems yet and I'm about half way through, I have been following to the letter and tomorrow due to add snails as it states.

I was just curious if the end results are as good as stated and if anyone that had used it had any advice or tips to make sure it works correctly.

How long have you been cycling?
What was your peak ammonia reading?
Has the ammonia dropped to 0?
Did you see Nitrite Rise and fall?
Do you have Nitrates now? If so what's the current result?

I ask these questions as I am understanding you saying your halfway through the cycle.
Livestock should not be added until the cycle is 100% completed.

I dont know if I'm halfway through the cycle but Im Halfway through the red sea programme, been running the tank for two weeks now, which I appreciate is short in normal terms but I thought that was the point of this kit, to accelerate that.

As I said I've followed it exactly and you don't test the levels every day, so the highest ammonia spike I've seen was 1.5 ppm, yes nitrate and nitrite all spiked at different times and now all 3 are 0ppm.

Last week I had the tank bloom and go cloudy and then clear again.

Ph is around 8, and I've got algae starting to grow in spots on Rock and substrate.

Interesting that your Nitrate is 0.
This is not a result I would expect. But again I have not used the method.
If you saw spikes in all three then I would say your cycled, and add your clean up crew as instructed.

Yeah I was surprised by that as well as that should be the by product of converting the Nitrite?? But thats what I had at the last test, and although it wasn't saying to I double checked the Amonia again today‍

Your aquarium is ready for snails and fish or whatever you want next within reason!

Oh and Aaron you must decide at some point if you want to continue carbon dosing (look it up) and the required knowledge you need to continue with something like NoPox. It will help you not crash the tank in the short/long run.

Ahh Ha yes that's why a big 0 on the Nitrates.

Do you think I should be dosing some more BactoStart? on day 2 according to the instructions I dosed them but have left the skimmer and return pump on, could that be the reason there is such a low reading of ammonia and nitrites?

Any help will be greatly apricated cause I don't know if I should be following the program if I don't have any ammonia

Hi, sorry I've only just seen this message, all.i can say is i followed it to the letter and it did work, I wouldn't start adjusting your doses chasing numbers during the process, just let it it run.

No worries was an old thread. My ammonia spike happened and now waiting for it to go to 0, last 4 days it has been hanging at 0.2 so I'm just gonna wait it out. Thanks for your answer!
