Depending on what your coverage is, it could absolutely cover any damage caused by the water to the home. If they have hardwood floors for example, it would get them fixed or new ones would be covered.
They won't cover unless you have the tank on your plan. It's like your dog biting someone. Not covered unless you add it in specifically.
Depends on the insurance. I asked usaa and they said it would be covered no extra anything needed.
It’s treated exactly the same as any other water damage
I had a pipe on upstairs toilet fail and they denied it. It was under the toilet in the sub floors. My insurance would laugh at a tank leak.

In general you are correct. However, each policy is different. Some cover damage - others you need a specific rider on your policy (i.e. you have to tell them you have xxx gallon aquarium for any damage to be covered). Additionally, some policies cover the tank itself and the stand if its broken - as well as equipment. Livestock, without a special policy I've never heard being covered.
Do you see the seam issue in the nice picture you posted? How long was this before the failure?
Then you should be covered
