Hey everyone just wanted some clarification on how the red sea test kit for alk works.

So you put in one drop to start the test which changes the water to blue. then you add drops until the color changes from blue to green.

So lets say I added 1 drop to start the test then another 7 drops until the color changes to the end point.

Does this mean I use 7 drops added when looking at the alk chart or is it 8 drops added?

Thanks!

It changes to orange not green. You start the test with 1ml in the syringe. Then when it changes to the orange color, you take the amount of the solution you actually used, and compare it to the chart to get your results. There's a video of the entire test on YouTube if you search it, provided by red sea.

There's actually uptime videos for pretty much everything.

sadly I did not find one for the test kit I have. Its not the pro version. Surprisingly it is not on the red sea channel either.

Never saw a different version. If it says count the drops then it's like the api kit. Count the total number of drops including the first. Not an extremely accurate test. If consider going with the red sea pro kits, probably cheaper in the long run since you can buy refills as needed on the cheap.

I've used salifert and red Sea and prefer using salifert, once my redsea calcium test is used up I'll switch that to salifert too
