Red Sea Trace Colors Dosing with TM All for Reef

Hello,

I'm trying to calculate how much Red Sea Trace Colors to dose based upon TM All For Reef consumption of 20ml per day in a 100g SPS tank (total volume with sump ~110 gallons) bare bottom, negative aquascape. From what I read on the TM Facebook page, All For Reef contains 2.15 ppm of calcium per 5 ml of concentrated solution. Based upon my dosage of 20ml per day x 2.15ppm, I am dosing 43ppm of Calcium per day. Does that sound correct?

Red Sea Dosing Chart on the BioActive Elements Supplement D indicates to use 3.5ml per day for 400 liters (105g) for each 40ppm of Calcium dosed per day. Based upon the above, would I be looking to dose ~3.5ml of Trace Colors D? I'd appreciate any input from those who are using these products and information above.

All for reef already contains most of those, why do you want to add even more trace elements? Given that you are already dosing trace elements, I would not follow red sea's dosing recommendations. You do, however, need to watch out for potassium as all for reef skips this for some reason.

Also, I like to use less than the tank volume for dosing as the rocks often displace a decent amount of water, so that is something to consider.

Thanks for the reply! I did find the calculator...even though I had visited that page numerous times, I still failed to scroll to the bottom of the page where they list the recommendations for salt, trace colors, etc. My tank is SPS dominant and I chose Great\Great as the option for growth and color: https://www.redseafish.com/myrecipe/size

My last ICP test was low on Iodine, so I added Trace Colors A to the regime. Initially, I validated the Red Sea Iodine Pro test kit showed 0 which matched the ICP test. I added Iodine slowly and got it to normal levels. My tank does not use much in contrast to the amount Red Sea suggests. I'm just adding under 2ml once per week and the levels are staying constant. I'll validate with an ICP test in the near future.

I may rethink about adding anything additional while using AFR.

Like @Spare time said, it isn't necessary while you're doing AFR, since AFR includes those elements as well. Dosing additional traces could contribute to tank imbalances, algae and dino growth, etc.

The only common thing missing from AFR is potassium. I am not sure why they don't have it included but it may because potassium usage is so variable (then again so is everything else)

@Spare time- Did you keep up with All For Reef and need any supplemental iodine or potassium? There is a thread a few years back from the manufacturer asking about increasing the iodine and it looks like they did reformulate AFR with more iodine. I just started All For Reef, and going in my Iodine is depleted according to Triton, so I will dose A, and possibly others as well. I have corals that need manganese and iron (part C goni and alveopora) and if potassium is not in AFR, I guess I may also need part B. Curious how things have turned out for you.

Just wanted to point out an error in your math on calcium consumption, in case you need to use this in the future or someone else reads this post for help. You state “All For Reef contains 2.15 ppm of calcium per 5 ml of concentrated solution.” and your dose is 20 ml. So you are using only four times the 2.15 ppm calcium, or 8.60 ppm. In the future, divide your dose quantity by 5 and then multiply by 2.15.

I just continue to dose potassium separately. I don't test iodine anymore but when I have checked via icp its been low, along with boron, manganese, and vanadium. I don't care about boron and manganese. Nickel, molybdenum, calcium, zinc, and magnesium were elevated. Silicon was also elevated but I dose silica.
