So I have had this 55g reef for a year now and I have had red slime and then my skimmer broke so it turned in to green hair algae so I got a new skimmer (reef octopus) and I took every rock out and scrubbed it till there was no more algae and put them back in and it seemed to not come back. Then like a week later red slime came back so I put chemiclean in there it did nothing and so I did a water change and tested my water 0nitrates 0phosphates 0amonya 8.4 pH and everything is good so I put carbon in a bag in the sump and I will be treating it with "red slime stain remover" hopefully that will get rid of it -Anny suggestions would help :) - happy reefing

I have used it 3x and it has not worked it might just be the batch I got but it has never even made a dent.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Algae to the tank as blemishes to teenagers, gotta treat it carefully or they gonna come back periodically. I do hope the chem will fix the problem this time. Good Luck! :thumb:

Highly doubtful chemiclean will work. You must get to the source of why the cyano is flourishing in the first place. You have definitely have phosphates otherwise the cyano couldn't grow. You may need to change your flow or add more. Could be many things but any 1 product will stop algae, sorry bud. It come down to water chemistry/quality. Try adding some Microbacter 7 while doing water changes.

Water flow is good and not overloading the fish I only have 1 yellow tang and 2 clown 2 chromis and a shrimp and a mandarin goby and a fun of live rock I replace the copopods very 2 months that the goby eats them and I have a refugom using RO water with .01 TDs metter not over feeding the fish and not keeping my light on to long . don't know where the phosphates are coming from and how else would I get rid of them

Any chance you experienced a period of high phosphates at some point in the past? I'm fairly certain they can bind to rock and substrate. IMO 10% water change every 2-3 weeks may not be enough. Might consider going to 20% once a week. Reduce nutrient input and increase export. I've been through the outbreaks. No quick fix. It may take a month or two to get nutrients under control. Have you considered using GFO in a reactor?

I just got red algae for the regfugiom and going to do more water changes let's see what happends

I had high phosphates when my skimmer broke 2 months ago but I got a new one
