Red Slime Algae

first we need to get to the source of your problem before taking care of the red slime. give us a run down of your water parameters so we know what we are working with. there are a few different options to go with from chemical base to natural.

How do I get rid of red slime in my DT?

Kill the and stop all feedings until it all dies off. Then resume with less duration lights and less feeding and adjust so the good stuff thrives buy the cyano does not come back.

I need to get rid of red slime as well...i thought i had gotten rid of it but it came back even stronger

Get in the tank with some airline tubing and suck out as much of the cyano as possible. Then set your skimmer to skim wetter than normal and cut the lights for 2 days. The tank needs to stay absolutley dark (I tape cardboard around my 55 to avoid as much daylight as possible.) That will temporarily kill it off in the tank, but you need to fix the overall problem. Are you using 0 TDS RO/DI water? What are you feeding and how much?

What do you mean by tds ro/di water? And i dont have a skimmer, in currently in the process of building and ordering everything i need to convert to a sump...i am using an eheim cannister filter right now until i get my sump set up

TDS = Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) are the total amount of mobile charged ions, including minerals, salts or metals dissolved in a given volume of water, expressed in units of mg per unit volume of water (mg/L), also referred to as parts per million (ppm). TDS is directly related to the purity of water and the quality of water purification systems and affects everything that consumes, lives in, or uses water, whether organic or inorganic, whether for better or for worse.

So if you have an RO/DI you need to know what the TDS reading is on it to make sure the water is as clean as possible. Also you don't necessarily need a skimmer. Just do 10-20%l water changes daily while the lights are off to export nutrients out of the tank. Also DO NOT feed the tank at all while doing this. Your fish and corals won't die over it.

I fet it from an lfs premade and tested for 1 dollar a gallon

have them show you a TDS reading on the water. LFS sometimes will used water well past 0 TDS to stretch out their dollar. I would invest in an RO/DI before getting more fish and or corals personally.

Most you can order not seen many Lfs that have them. Brs has them decent priced. eBay or Amazon. Spectrpure or brs brand are both good. Spectra pure is the best
