hello so I’ve been told this is both red slime algae also Cyanobacteria so hopefully I can get a solid id here and a way to fix whether it’s just water change and cyphon or something I can add

I guess this would help lol

I will never NoPox or chemiclean my tank. Had a crash because of it.

Their are thousands of species of Cynobacteria. Spirulina is considered blue green cynobacteria. Normally, cyno is a bioindicator of phosphate in the water column but cyno can also extract phosphate from inorganic calcium phosphate in substrate.

Lets start on this like they do at the Doctors office...….we have a few questions and forms that need filled out:)

How long has your tank been up and running?
What size tank, how many fish (list please), and what do you have for filtration?
How long / what % are you lights on every day (lighting schedule)
Can we get a FTS - will help to see your powerhead, aquascape, possible flow issues
What are your latest test readings for nitrates and phosphates, and what test kits do you use?

Lets start there and work our way through this.

We don't want to add stuff if we don't need to, but it can all be used safely and effectively if needed.

It ain’t rocket science. Syphon cyno out of the tank using gravel vac. Cynobacteria is concentrated nutrient export.

Check your N:P ratio. Low nitrogen favors cynobacteria and most other nuisance algae’s. Macro optimum N:P ratio is 30:1.
