I just used Red slime remover Ultra and followed directions. Says don't remove carbon , yet most posts I've searched have said carbon neutralizes it and need to remove. What's the true story??

Follow the manufacter's directions for the product you're using. Different manufacter's may have different instructions and may have very differetn formulas for products marketed to deal with the same issue. Not following the correct instructions can in worst case scenarios cause death of tank inhabitants.

Activated carbon? I would remove that, otherwise you would likely just be absorbing the chemical you're adding.

I'm assuming activated carbon and carbon filtration are the same thing??

From manufacturer:

For best results. DO NOT turn off UV Sterilizer. No need for Water changes or Removal of Carbon Filtration

UV probably doesn't make a difference either way. I would not run carbon. I would also remove the collection cup from my skimmer, but keep it running for aeration purposes.

I did remove cup and left uv running but left carbon in per the instructions. Trying to get clarification from manufacturer.

If they get back to you, I'd be curious as to what they say.

not to distract from the run carbon or don't run carbon but just a small tip with running your skimmer cup-less. i've found it considerably less messy if instead of just running it open top to use the lid for the collection cup over top of the neck. you still get the aeration benefit but it holds down the splash

On another note while I am awaiting an answer from the manufacturer, how long would you run the skimmer without cup for?? Would you do a water change after maybe 48 hours??

Ultralight claims it contains no erythromycin.
They are lying.

The package claims "no erythromycin succinate," but they are likely just using a different salt of erythromycin.
