I used red slime remover last tuesday to get rid of some cyano and haven't been able to turn my skimmer on since without going crazy I know that it messes your skimmer up for a couple days after treatment but it's going on almost a week. I did a water change and going to do another one tonight. Just wondering from people that have used it how long it took before you could use your skimmer again

You can start running it now, just need to adjust it a bit. I had the same issue a while back and I had to dial down the skimmer intake to keep the water level just below the collection cup

Tried adjusting it but it didn't make a difference. But it just occurred to me that I can turn down the DC pump on it so I am going to try that

Takes mine about a week. For the skimmer I just move it to the highest position and empty it a few times a day.

I left mine running the whole time. the red slime remover also depletes oxygen, so I covered the top with a bowl to minimize salt spray. I just pulled the drain plug and let it drain right back in the sump through the process.

I normally do one water change and basically "burp" the skimmer..

By burping, I mean I adjust it all the way down, then, if you let the foam collect, and drain it into a bucket. Then, it will get back to skimming normally.. And I leave it at that level overnight, and usually, by the morning, it's ready to go back to its normal water level in the skimmer body..

On my 240 system, had to do a replacement of 4 gallons of saltwater from the burping process.. It normally doesn't take long, just nerve wracking to sit and wait for it to die down..

I turned the pump down and it was acting better but was putting out a lot of micro bubbles so I just shut it off. I ll give it couple more days

Would you mind posting a few pics. I may be getting cyano and want to compare.

Yeah it works really good my sand bed was pretty much covered with it but it was green. I went little crazy with acro power but one treatment cleaned it up did another one 48 hrs later just to make sure

my skimmer went crazy and was turned all the way down- I opened my skimmer drain in to a bucket and I must have went through 7 buckets before it shimmered down and that's after 20% water change on a 150 gal.
Better make sure you have fresh salt water mix ready

Wow! We're you running carbon? And if so, what brand? Because I always start running carbon the night before I plan on turning the skimmer back on.. But.. I will say that I found it also depends on the brand and type of carbon, how it pulls and how quickly.. Even though I don't use it regularly (I don't normally use any carbon honestly), if I have to use carbon for "pulling" purposes, the marineland black diamond works the best for me.. And I just leave it in overnight and then dump it.. Just the small bottle on my 240 twv system..

That and my tiny bag of purigen.. And honestly, im bad about not doing the 20%water change(I don't think I've done that the 3 times I've used it in 10 years).... I normally do 10% and call it a day.. lol.. But from what I remember, before I experimented and started doing the carbon trick(is been a long time, and I don't have to treat often, so it's one of those things that foggy as far as exactly when I stumbled across it), yes, it was a mess as far as getting the skimmer to settle down..

And speaking of that, I think the skimmer makes a difference also.. Because my skimz I have now is easier to settle down, since I have independent air control and two pumps, compared to my reef dynamics units that I used before this one..

I took the cup off and just let the skimmer run for couple of days. About day four I put the cup back on and I was good to go. After 7 days I did a 10% water change

The easiest way is to let the skimmer run normally, but attach a drain hose to the bottom of the collection cup. Allow that to drain back into the tank, but onto a bag of carbon (I use a normal HOB filter cartridge). I have done this multiple times over the years...the skimmer starts working normally within a day.
