What causes red slime to start showing up in a established tank? I have it on my glass and crush coral.

Excess nutrients and low water flow ... Can also be old bulbs in your light fixture. Usual water changes and flow can fix it up

I have had a few cyano outbreaks in my previous 46G tank and it always seemed to be after feeding my corals WAY TO MUCH! I would have to say make sure your feeding schedule is on par with your filtration, make sure your lighting is on a good 8 hour schedule or if your on LED's your not running them at 100%.

Even if they were off, I don't see the tell tail wavy hair like substance anywhere in that photo. ??

Could be a bacterial imbalance. In the past I have had good success with "Dr Tim". For me I never felt flow was that big of a game changer, water changes, bulb changes if they are old and Dr Tim. Like the label says it will wipe out your shrimp. (Re-Fresh)

OK thank you reefing madness. Do you know what could cause this brown algae or what ever it is start up. I thought I had everything under control.

Going through different stages of algae and diatom blooms is somewhat normal with a new tank. An established tank is really 6 - 18 months old.

You may try getting some more flow into that certain area, see if it breaks it up for you.

I started running my return pump threw my chiller instead of having a separate pump just for my chiller. Do you guys think that is limiting my flow? I have a mag 9.
