It’s on one of my rocks. But I actually haven’t tried to break it off. I’m going to try chemiclean . Should I try to remove it?What happens when you clean it off the rock? Does it break apart? Is it soft? Does it appear throughout the tank?
Don't run Chemiclean yet. That is for cyanobacteria and we haven't confirmed what it is.
Try cleaning it up manually and observe how it behaves. If it stays in one piece and it can be rolled up like a mat, it may be cyanobacteria.
I would encourage you not to use bottled solutions unless as a last resort. If it does turn out to be cyanobacteria, I was able to eliminate about 90% of it in my tank by running a UV sterilizer.
Blow it off with a turkey baster and then suck it out. It sometimes comes and goes in the life of a reef tank.
"Dom" is right no chemicals until you have tried manual removal.
so the red slime was soft. I used the turkey Baster and it flew apartIt looks like cyano. Every tank I have ever owned had cyano at some point. In would siphon it off. I’m not a fan of chemical methods for removal.
