First off, Sorry for the fuzzy pics. So I'm 4 months new to coral keeping. My tank is 4 months old. Parameters are holding stable and seeing coral growth on a few frags. I found what seems like a red slime on a zoa frag. pulled that frag out of the tank and scrubbed it off the zoa. I have a second frag of Firework clove polyps that has started to branch off the plug. So I'm hesitant to interrupt the new growth.
The big question is will this slime damage or kill the cloves if I leave it alone?

Kind of looks like a sponge. Got any better pics?

If it were red slime, aka Cyno, then it can cover algae and coral dissolving their biomass. If it is Cyanobacteria it should blow off with a Turkey blaster. If it is a sp9nge, it will be spongy to the touch.

Thanks, It must be Cyno was able to blast it off the plug about 90% removed. Theirs a small amount still on a polyp. need to locate a sm. soft brush to finish the job. I'm afraid a toothbrush will tear the polyp apart or off the plug. Will be watching tank closely for more of the red death.
Thanks

Any suggestion on small soft brushes ?

Normally, Cynobacteria would not need a toothbrush to remove. Consider a 10 minute dip in a 10% solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide. When a rock can not be removed, I put peroxide on toothbrush and reapply peroxide every 30 seconds.

slime coat of coral protects it from peroxide. If it is a prized, delicate coral then reduce soak time.
