Red spiky growth

Bought a torch coral a few weeks ago and it’s not doing well-turning white and losing tentacle extension. We noticed this red spiky thing growing on the side and we are not sure what it is. Any ideas?

not sure what they are, but 100 percent not the reason why the torch isn't doing well

torches like higher flow than most lps and on the higher end when it comes to lighting too
