Hello,

I have a 40G Aquatop Recife series marine aquarium and am only 5 months into this hobby.

A few months ago I purchased a Candy Cane coral from my LFS. I used to see white tentacles come out of the green fleshy part of the candy cane, but have not for some time. What I see now are some redish purple spine looking things coming off the stalk. Can anyone help me identify what this is, and maybe why it's doing this?

I test the water with API test kits and everything is fine, Nitrite, Nitrate, Phosphate are all undetectable. Ammonia is at .25 ppm I believe as it's kinda hard to read the colors on the card.

Has anyone seen this before?

The pic is fuzzy. The darn phone wouldn't focus. The red stuff almost looks like spikes or spines.

If it's algae, that is the only spot in the tank where it's located. Wouldn't that be unusual?

I tried some Reef Flux Flucanizol (sp) about a week ago because I was starting to see what I thought was GHA or Bryopsis. That green stuff is mostly gone. But this red stuff was there before that treatment and is still there afterward.
