Red sponge-like algae in sump

Not really a critter or a hitchhiker but over the past couple of months I’ve had this red sponge-like algae start growing in my sump.

It’s not at plague proportions but starting to increase in growth.

it’s a great home for pods, so I’m not keen to get rid of it unnecessarily, but thought that I would run it past you all.

That’s what I was thinking...it’s just sitting there minding it’s own business in the sump growing on the baffles.

Definitely a pod factory though...every bit I pull off is crawling with pods!!!!

This is Scinaia hormoides

I reckon that Scinaia hormoides looks closest to what I’ve got. I dont have a lot of light in my sump so I’m surprised that it's taken off like it has.

Some type of Botryocladia or Laurencia in my opinion. It doesn't look dense enough to resemble Scinaia hormoides. Did you collect it locally? If so, S. hormoides is not known to grow anywhere near southeastern Australia.
