Red spots on dried coral

Hi! I have a piece of brain coral from a vacation 6 years ago that I found on the beach. I don't have it in water of any kind. It is used as decor. Over the past couple years I have noticed little red spots appearing. There seem be more and more each time I check (Every few months). I was hoping someone might be able to help me identify what it is that is growing on it! Also they are only appearing on the under side of it!

1st guess is mold, since its on the bottom with no light.
 
Thank you for your reply! I wondered that too but It seems to be very hard and doesn't budge or wash off so I thought perhaps it may be something else.
