So when I set up my tank I put 35 lbs of big base rock and about 30lbs of nice coraline encrusted rock. The tank cycled and algae growth started to form. At first it was brown diatoms all Over the sand bed and rock. After 2-3 weeks diatoms started to disappear and green algae started to show up. Not on the sand but all over the rock and glass. It hasn't disappeared as fast even though there is a decent cuc. As off recently it is extremely slowly starting to disappear in these splotchy spots and now I'm getting red spots. I'm sure this has got to be the start of a new form of algae but I'm curious if this the natural progression of a reef tank with base rock. The coraline encrusted rock has no algae growth at all on it so I assume it is natural for the base dead rock to develop this. Are the red spots a new form of algae.
