Red stringy algae

This is my brothers tank, which is very neglected... not mine lol. What is this red stringy algae growing. It’s only in a couple spots on the substrate.

It’s cyano and not an algae but rather a bacteria
First check your phosphate and nitrate for elevated levels which is a likely cause
Siphon it up. Clean filters daily for 10 days. During the day, add 1ml of liquid bacteria per 10 gallons. Reduce white light intensity or even turn off white lights for 5 days
At night, add 1.5ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons.
lastly, add 3 of each snail to maintain control:
Turbo
Astrea
Nassarius
Trochus
Cerith
6-8 blue leg hermit crabs
