They tend to be ok for quite a while, possibly before they fully mature. It's very similar to a sixline in that respect. I'd be more worried about the sixline harming it to begin with tbh.
Do you happen to know if hogfish are compatible with clams?

They should be fine with clams but cuc and shrimps might not be safe.

It's not unusual for a sixline to be well behaved until you try and add new fish. You have a very peaceful tank if you take away the potential for sixline aggression. Personally I'd be very cautious adding the hogfish, you may get harmony to begin with but I'd wager at some point incompatibility will mean you have to step in. I do wish you the best of luck though.

Appreciate all that. I do have a fish trap if I need to catch one, or the other. I just hope that if something does come up, it doesn’t go downhill too fast to intervene.

Nope, never has bothered them. The pistol shrimp is verrrry reclusive (he lives with the Randall's goby), but they've been together over a year without issue.

It does! I got really lucky. The mandarin gobbles up mysis. He's a little chonker.
Just curious how the peppermint hogfish worked out.
