Cyanoalgae will form in following condition:
- low flow
- high phosphate or silicate
- low oxygenation
- new tank cycling process uptil 9 months of tank being setup

Having Cyano is an indication that something is off. In a mature stable tank, you will not have cyano. Hope that helped.

Sam.

Looks like the start of some corraline algae to me.Thats good.

If your tank is a few weeks old and you think it has cycled.. then add ONE fish or two small ones. I suggest a clown because they are hearty and usually are on the fish want list anyway. This is your chance to get a nice clown, so pick carefully. Adding too much fish mass will crash a new tank. You need to take it slow and smell the roses. Expect the clown to act strange, that is what they do, .... act strange. Feed it partial frozen food cubes thawed in tank water.... as do the same for future fish additions. You can add a cleaner shrimp, and/or emerald crab too if you are dying to add some life forms. They do not count on the fish bio-load mass. Be sure to feed enough that they get fed too.

Take it easy on the feeding increases, increase food volume very slowly,... tiny increments of increases so your live rock bacteria can keep up or you can crash the tank. You can target feed the crab.. meaning get some long tweezers and hand him some kelp or shrimp morsel.

Also, it is time if you haven't yet, to add some clean up crew. (snails, hermits) They do not count on the fish bio load mass either. Visit.... Reef Cleaners| Clean up Crews and Macroalgae - ReefCleaners.org | Custom Clean Up Crews and Macro Algae
