We have some weird purple/red stuff in our sand bed. It also has black hairs in it. I think it is Cyano and so i turned off my lights for 3 days and also increased the flow and it didn't do anything. Any ideas on what it could be and how to get rid of it? My tank is about 7-8 months old too.

Thanks.

a 3 day black will only work for algae. You can remove cyano with water changes
Your rocks looks really new for a tank that’s 7-8 months old

Looks like cyano. Good tank maintenance can help sort that out. If it is like red slime you can remove it at a water change, a few waterchanges to balance your no3 and po4 should help
There are chemicals if it gets too bad but you need to make sure to do your research on these before you use them and I would say should only be a last resort.

Try focusing the flow a bit more so it grazes over that area. Cyano bacteria doesnt really care about lighting all that much.

Chemicals are not necessary, and learning how to taper it with flow will help you later on.

It's not going to nuke your tank, by any means, if that's what you're asking.
